We invite you to join us for an immersive exploration of these often-hurried steps. \nDuring this retreat\, we will delve into the insights provided by the second\nedition of Drop The Rock book\, authored by Bill P.\, Todd W.\, and Sara S.\, along with SLAA materials. Our goal is to facilitate a deep understanding of the transformative power through these steps\, fostering personal growth and the liberation from character defects. \nThis recovery retreat provides a supportive environment for reflection\,\nlearning\, and connection. Join us for this deep dive into self-discovery and\nhealing as we work together to navigate the path to true freedom. \nWhat is the Drop the Rock concept?\n• The concept of “dropping the rock” is a metaphor for releasing\nresentments\, destructive patterns\, and character defects.\n• It’s a core part of Twelve Step recovery.\n• It relates to Steps 6 and 7\, which focus on asking a higher power for help. \nWhy is “dropping the rock” important?\n• It can lead to lasting change and authentic recovery.\n• It can create a “ripple effect” of healing and positivity on others.\n• It can help people move forward unburdened by their past. \nParticipants will:\n• Discuss the story of “Drop the Rock”.\n• Share their own experiences with “dropping the rock”.\n• Explore the principles behind Steps 6 and 7 and how Step 10\ncompliments our maintenance of recovery.\n• Learn how to apply these principles to our own lives. \nThe process of identifying these tendencies and stopping the behaviors will\nnot only help those in recovery but will lead us to true happiness and\nusefulness to others. \nAdditional Notes: \n1. In addition to SLAA Step materials\, we will be using some non-\nConference approved materials\, e.g. Drop the Rock book. To review the free pdf download go to Hazelden – Drop the Rock book pdf download . You will need this for the weekend.\n2. To hear the inspiration for the concept of Drop the Rock and the book\,\ngo to YouTube:Sandy Beach – Drop the Rock – AA Speaker. \nImportant information regarding attendance/participation:\n• This is an SLAA retreat sponsored by NEI.\n• Participants this weekend are recovering SLAA members.\n• Non-participating guests are NOT allowed.\n• This retreat is not suitable for anyone in acute withdrawal or initial stages\nof recovery. This retreat serves those seeking ongoing motivation for sobriety maintenance through continued Step Work. \nWe look forward to seeing you soon!  \n

Sex & love addiction can cause so much pain and suffering and sometimes death. What is so\nfunny about that? Many find that by sharing our antics/stories we put a light on just how extreme our thinking/actions can be in the midst of addiction. In recovery we can laugh with each other\, keep things in perspective\, and experience new emotions. This session is about how bringing humor and laughing into our lives has played a part in our recovery and healing. \n1:45 – 2:45 PM\nSession 2: Acting Out/In vs. Recovery. “Acting Out” is to engage in addictive behavior. “Acting In” is to engage in actions that are isolating or withdrawing in nature. Both reflect avoidant behaviors that are harmful to us. Each person in S.L.A.A acts “out” and/or “in” differently\, but with help from a Higher Power\, our sponsor\, and recovering addicts we can move to recovery too. The S.L.A.A. program can help us stay sober and start living a life without active addiction. This session is about how we recognize our addictive patterns and admit powerlessness over them. That allows us to get help to stay sober from our patterns and start living a life of recovery. \n3:00 – 4:00 PM\nSession 3: Recovery: the Promises.  When we are more active in recovery by working the Steps\, some of the promises can start to occur even if we haven’t finished Step 9. This session is about how the promises have manifested in our lives and what we do to keep the promises alive today. \nThis event is open to anyone who identifies as a sex and/or love addict or is interested in finding out about recovery from this addiction in the S.L.A.A. program. \nInterested in doing service work at this event?  Ask us how you can get involved! \nWe look forward to seeing you soon!  \nSIGN UP HERE\nhttps://donorbox.org/spring-gathering-2025\n

Sex & love addiction can cause so much pain and suffering and sometimes death. What is so funny about that? Many find that by sharing our antics/stories we put a light on just how extreme our thinking/actions can be in the\nmidst of addiction. \nThis event is open to anyone who identifies as a sex and/or love addict or is interested in finding out about recovery from this addiction in the S.L.A.A. program \nWe look forward to seeing you soon! \nSIGN UP HERE\n

Many of us come to SLAA having\nfew healthy boundaries with a wide variety of addictive behaviors for\nexample: acting out sexually\, engaging in romantic intrigue\, and acting\nin – avoiding contact with others. Bottom lines help us to come to\nterms with our individual patterns of addiction. Identifying our own\naddictive patterns is a first step toward changing those patterns and\nbeing sober in our recovery. This session offers people an opportunity\nto share their experience\, strength\, and hope about how they defined\ntheir patterns and moved away from acting out. \n12:45 – 2:00 PM Lunch Break\n\n2:00 – 3:15 PM\nSession 2: Working Those Tools. We often use tools to get through\nthe day without acting out. Meetings\, Prayer\, meditation\, phone calls\nwith other fellows\, writing\, literature\, and other tools help us establish\nhealthy patterns for living to get us over the day-to-day struggles with\nour addiction. What tools do you use to support your recovery? This\nsession is about exploring tools of recovery and how people use them\nto strengthen their recovery. \n3:30 – 4:45 PM\nSession 3: Building Healthy Relationships. What constitutes a\nhealthy relationship? As we come out of the withdrawal phase of our\nrecovery we need to learn how to connect with our Higher Power and\nothers in a healthy way. How do we reconcile our existing\nrelationships\, form new relationships\, how do we strengthen our\nphysical\, emotional\, and spiritual connections in a sober way? This\nsession is about strategies for handling difficult conversations and\nstarting new relationships through our new sober lives.\nThis event is open to anyone who identifies as a sex and/or love\naddict or is interested in finding out about recovery from this\naddiction in the S.L.A.A. program. Yikes!\nHow do we do that in recovery?! Many of us never learned how to\ndate in a healthy way\, if at all. Often\, we need to learn how to set\nand keep boundaries; how to truly get to know someone before\nbeing ALL in or ALL out; how to make conscious choices rather than\nimpulsive or compulsive decisions; how to deal with sexuality and\nsexual feelings in a sober way; and how to feel feelings and not let\nthem consume us. It is difficult to do alone. Human connection is what each\nperson needs in order to feel loved\, supported\, and understood. SLAA\noffers tools to achieve that connection such as meetings\,\nsponsorship\, service\, outreach/using the phone\, and\, getting current.\nThis session offers people an opportunity to share their experience\,\nstrength\, and hope of connecting and how that connection changes\nour lives.\n11:30AM-12:45PM\nSession 2: Connecting Through Healthy Relationships. How\nto translate our inner recovery experiences of personal dignity\, self-\nworth and self-intimacy into guidelines to use in relationships with\nothers. Others can be family members\, friends\, co-workers\, current\nor potential partners or casual acquaintances. Discussions about how\nwe connect and form health relationships with healthy boundaries in\nrecovery.\n12:45-2:00PM Lunch Break\n2:00-3:15PM\nSession 3: Connecting with a Power Greater than\nOurselves. A Higher Power can be anything at all that a member\nbelieves is greater than themselves. These may include nature\,\nconsciousness\, God\, science\, Buddha\, S.L.A.A. meetings/groups\, yoga\,\nexercise\, etc. In our active addiction\, for many of us\, our addiction\nwas serving as our higher power. Sometimes we even considered\nourselves a higher power. In recovery\, we instead connect with a\nhealthy power greater than ourselves\, however each of us may define\nthis higher power.\n3:30-4:45PM\nGratitude Meeting / Closing\nThis event is open to anyone who identifies as a sex and/or love\naddict or is interested in finding out about recovery from this\naddiction in the S.L.A.A. program. Masks are encouraged\, but\noptional. \nSIGN UP HERE\n \nWe look forward to seeing you soon!

SUMMARY:Spring Gathering 2021
DESCRIPTION:  \nSchedule\nVirtual Hang-out 9:30-10:00AM EDTConnect with old and new recovering friends before the sessions start \nSession 1: 10:00-10:50AM EDTWhat blocks me from exploring the joys of recovery? What habits\, behaviors or actions do I use to avoid relationships or intimacy with others? Do I have a chronic pattern of isolation? Am I avoiding vulnerability at all costs? Am I willing to accept that control does not always equal safety? Do I know how to have fun? Am I engaging in top line behaviors? This session explores top line behaviors and how our disease wants us to avoid them. \nSession 2: 11:00-11:50AM EDTLearning to love myself and to love others by loving Higher Power first. In Step 11 our Basic Text talks about learning to walk through each day with the sense of being hand-in-hand with H.P. as a spring of love seemed to flow from within. “Thus we came to find intimacy with ourselves\, intimacy with God\, and the intimacy with others.” (Step 11 page 101) What is your experience with learning to love H.P.\, yourself and others? This session discusses how developing a loving relationship with our Higher Power can help us to learn to love ourselves and others. \nSession 3: 12:00-12:50PM EDTPreparing for new beginnings and watching our recovery grow. Am I living a new positive\, unfolding life? Am I finding it easier to make better choices for myself? Am I unafraid of honesty and openness with others? Am I noticing that I have more dignity of self? Do I accept my own imperfections and mistakes as part of being human? This session explores the signs of recovery for each of us – as individuals – and encourages us to celebrate our progress on the path of recovery. \nGratitude Meeting / Closing 1:00-1:30PM EDTClose out the Spring gathering with gratitude for fellowship and our recovery. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpring-Gathering-2021-Save-the-Date-flyer-v2Download
